Community: The Structure of Belonging By: Peter Block
This is one of our favorite books! The book discusses the fact that we have created a society that is designed to fix broken things and broken people; we have created a model of “fixing brokenness.” This is not the optimal model for creating equity in any area. Community is about the building up of communities and transforming hope that we so desperately need in today’s world. It puts power in the hands of community members; not in the hands of systems.

We love this book and recommend it for anyone or any organization that is striving to create community equity in the most sustainable way.

On Bullshit By: Harry Frankfurt
This intriguing little book is a 2005 Bestseller Award Winner in the Philosophy Category. In a nutshell, the book discusses that one of the most salient features of our culture is that there is so much bullshit. Everyone knows this. Each of us contributes his/her share. But we tend to take the situation for granted. In many ways, Frankfurt shares that we actually prefer bullshit over the truth.

This is a great read for examining the importance of reading between the lines and improving our conscientiousness about what we hear, see, read and communicate.
